| In addition to its advertised public services, most facilities at the Railway are available for private hire. This page outlines a few ideas that have already proved popular. Please get in touch to discuss any particular requirements. | |||||||||||||||
Train Hire A train may be hired for a day, a half-day, or for an evening event at times when the Railway is not normally open (see Events page for normal opening times). Steam or diesel haulage, or a diesel multiple unit, may be used, depending on requirements. All costs will be fully discussed at the time of booking, but the following is a reliable price guide - Commercial Organisations Steam Haulage - from £350:00 Diesel Haulage - from £250:00 Educational & similar Organisations Steam Haulage - from £250:00 Diesel Haulage - from £150:00 Train Hire will usually include access to the locomotive shed and restoration centre. It is sometimes possible for small parties to visit together, or at different times on the same day. This can enable costs to be shared, especially for steam locomotive haulage. Deposit is £50:00 per event Driving Experience A separate page on this web site described Driving Experience. It may be possible to pre-arrange for individuals from a private party to receive a spell of Driving Experience during their visit. Please discuss this with us in advance, and note that pre-booking is essentail and that only adults can take part.  Above A private party in one of our Norwegian coaches. Anniversary Dinners, Receptions, Birthday Parties, Meetings, etc. A former Norwegian Railways coach has been converted into a static restaurant with pleasant views over the fields. This coach is divided into two sections, each seating approximately 30 people at open-plan tables and chairs. These can be arranged to suit the occasion. For a meeting or AGM, for example, the tables can be removed and seats laid out, with tea/coffee and biscuits provided. We are fully licensed with bar facilities available. Anniversaries, Parties, etc. Various catering options are available, including full sit-down roast dinners, buffets, snacks and self-catering. Prices depend upon requirements and numbers, and start at £5:50 per head for buffets and £7:50 per head for meals. Estimates/quotations are available from the Catering Manager. Train rides can be arranged during normal service operation (usually between 11 am and 4 pm on weekend days), or a special train may be hired for the event (see above). Children's Birthday Parties These are extremely popular, and can involve train rides. Maximum number is usually 30, as this is the maximum for one section of the carriage. It is also possible to hire both sections, however. If the weather is good there is a grassed area with picnic tables just outside the carriage. The hire charge for one section of the carriage is £40 for the day. It will be available from 10am for decorating and setting up tables, with a finish at 4pm. Birthday parties are normally self-catering with some kitchen facilities available and decoration carried out by parents. Train rides are available for children and parents - on steam-hauled trains these are £3 for adults and £ 1.50 for children, and on diesel trains £2:50 for adults and £ 1:50 for children. Higher costs apply when there is a special event on at the Railway for that day. The final numbers can be agreed on the day. Other entertainment can be provided at an additional cost, such as a magician, etc. A bouncy castle is available for the "under 12s" for a hire of £30. Deposit is £15 per party minimum. Marquee A marquee can be hired for larger occasions and can be located in the picnic area or on the patio outside the Norwegian coach. Bar-B-Q A self-catering Bar-B-Q is available in the picnic area for parties. Entertainment Coach A bogie parcels van has been cleared of internal partitions and is available for discos and similar events. At present, these facilities are available at weekends only.
